Benton Park NE7

Benton Park Primary School

Celebrating the success and achievements of everyone in our community

The Governing Body

The Governors are responsible for the strategic direction of the school, and for working with the head teacher and school staff in order to raise standards and provide the optimum education for the children of Benton Park School.

We are there to support the leadership team of the school as critical friends.

We learn about what has been going on in the school from regular communication with the school staff, participation in the preparation of the school’s development plan, and regular visits to the school. We also take an active role in monitoring and analysing the progress of pupils in their learning in key areas such as Literacy, Maths, Science, ICT and Special Needs provision.

Governors meet once a term as a governing body, and also meet more regularly in the following sub-committees:

• Curriculum -concerned with all matters of the curriculum and with extra-curricular opportunities available to the children. This committee is particularly involved with the monitoring of standards within different subject areas and key phases and regularly reviewing progress in English and Maths with the Head teacher.
• Finance & Staffing -sets and closely monitors the school budget and is also directly involved with the recruitment of new members of staff.
• Premises -works on all aspects of the school site and estate. They discuss issues regarding Health and Safety and spending on the building inside and out. This committee ensures that the site and building are properly maintained and they ensure procedures for the safety of all site users. It also focuses on the school as part of the community and the use of the site beyond the school.
