School of Sanctuary
Being welcomed into our school community, as a new child or family is really important. One of the strengths of our school is the welcome you provide for new children and families. We would like to formalise this welcome, providing new children and families with designated children and families who will help and support them in their first few weeks and months at Benton Park; just while people find their feet and become accustomed with our school, routines etc.
We are therefore going to give children in Year 1-6 the opportunity to apply (younger children can of course have help with their application!) to become a sanctuary ambassador - a class based 'buddy' who will support new arrivals to our school. We also hope applying for a role will give the children real life experience of what it is like to apply for a role / job. There will be two ambassadors in each class - each provided with a purple sanctuary ambassador badge in recognition of this new responsibility. Please see the job description below for more information. Every child in Year 1-6 had the opportunity to write an application and five children in each class were interviewed by either Miss Gillespe or Miss Jones. The standard was extremely high and the job of picking two per class was very hard indeed.
Likewise, if you as a parent or grandparent, feel you could offer some support to a new family (whether they are moving to our school from Byker or somewhere more exotic!) please drop us a line to email@example.com with contact details and information about languages, other than English, that you speak. We'd like to build up a bank of volunteers we can match up with new admit families. Thanks in advance for your help with this.
